While maintenance of the LimeLight handpiece is not strictly necessary given that it is not a laser and customers cannot alter the calibration, calibration of the optical output should be checked periodically. The recommendation is approximately every twelve months as well as after any service or repair work. Calibration is intended to ensure that the energy output from the LimeLight handpiece corresponds accurately to the user-selected settings. In all cases, calibration must be performed by an engineer or technician certified to work with energized electronic laser or pulsed-light equipment. This is to ensure that the laser energy meter that is used has received a NIST traceable calibration within the past twelve months in the US or that it complies with international standards. Other than the calibration, though, general maintenance is unnecessary when the handpiece is used correctly and as intended.LimeLight Treatments
As noted, the IPL LimeLight handpiece can treat both benign pigmented and vascular lesions as well as provide photorejuvenation. All of these services can be provided to all patients in good health including men and women of all ethnicities and skin types.
Benign Pigmented Lesions: For benign pigmented lesions, such as freckles, age spots, sun damage, and even rosacea, the LimeLight darkens the lesion without affecting the surrounding skin. After seven to ten days, the darkened area will fade or slough off. This is all done with no harm to the skin given that the concentrated laser light targets the lower layers of the dermis without causing any damage to the top layers. No pulse duration adjustment is needed and spot-testing should be used to determine the correct fluence, but treatment can be provided anywhere on the body. The most common lesion treatment areas include: face, hands, chest, arms, and back.
Photorejuvenation: For photorejuvenation, treatment is handled in much the same way; however, practitioners must use extreme caution with treatment or light exposure around the eyes as this can result in vision problems or blindness. All parties in the room must wear protective eyewear and must also be warned about the risks associated with looking directly at the light. Treatments are speedy and effective, though, and provide a practically pain-free option for interested patients.
